Sustainable practices
For Cement Australia, ‘sustainable practices’ means putting our sustainability strategy into action and improving the way we do our jobs.
Our key focus areas are:
- Management of safety, health, environment and compliance issues
- Improved water management
- Reducing our greenhouse gas emissions
- Resource conservation – Cement Australia is one of the largest material recyclers in Australia
Our sustainable practices include:
- Cement Australia maintains certified management systems for Safety, Health and the Environment (SHE)
- We have been an active industry member of the Asia-Pacific Partnership on Clean Development and Climate allowing us to participate in research and development for the new technologies needed for emissions reduction and improved energy efficiency
- Through our alternative fuels and raw materials strategy we aim to replace first-use materials wherever practical and wherever waste management and/or emissions performance also benefits
- Through our water management policy, we are committed to the conservation, protection and responsible use of water resources (link)
- We are continuing to integrate evolving sustainability metrics into traditional business
